UPS Load Capacity Screening

Calculates connected load in watts and apparent load in VA, then applies a user-selected planning allowance. Product selection must also satisfy the UPS manufacturer's W, VA, overload, topology, and runtime limits.

Inputs

Range: at least 0 W

Example starting value: 2,400 W. Replace it with the connected critical load.

Range: 0.01–1

Example starting value: 0.80. Use the measured or equipment-specific load power factor.

Range: 0–500 %

Example starting value: 25%. Replace it with the documented planning allowance.

Result

Connected apparent load
3,000.00 VA
Capacity screen (VA)
3,750.00 VA
Capacity screen (W)
3,000.00 W
Connected apparent load
\frac{\mathrm{Connected\ load\ (W)}}{\mathrm{Load\ power\ factor}}
\frac{2400}{0.8}
Capacity screen (W)
\mathrm{Connected\ load\ (W)} \cdot (1 + \frac{\mathrm{User\-selected\ allowance\ (\%)}}{100})
2400 \cdot (1 + \frac{25}{100})
Capacity screen (VA)
\mathrm{Connected\ apparent\ load} \cdot (1 + \frac{\mathrm{User\-selected\ allowance\ (\%)}}{100})
3000 \cdot (1 + \frac{25}{100})
